We have loved Italy, but July and August are too expensive for us. With very few anchorages and very expensive marinas ($300+++ a night) we need to move on, but we’ll be back in October.
So after a short stay in Santa Maria Di Leuca (the stiletto on Italy’s boot), we do a short hop to the Island of Erikoussa – our first Greek Island and the 8th of our trip so far.
One night and then we head south east to Corfu. We stop at the marina to check into Greece, it’s is stifling hot, with no breeze. The water is disgusting, so we can’t swim, we just need to wait for the office to open - only to be told we need to go to the commercial port. We can’t wait to get out of there and wander at the other yachties who pay the $200 we were quoted to stay in this sauna.
We head to the commercial port and get directed to tie up amongst the ferries against a high concrete wall, with one bollard. After much cursing, Sam heads off to the port office and eventually we are officially signed into the country. We anchor for the night under the old fort in Corfu town and end up staying put for a few days. Having a decent supermarket, fruit and fish markets within walking distance is awesome and we take the opportunity to stock up big time.
We're an ordinary family of 5 dreaming, planning and now beginning our adventure around the Mediterranean (and further afield), having an awesome time! Look out for our boat and come and say hi.
