You may have heard the statistic, that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish. Well in Licata that has already happened. At first the problem seems overwhelming.
Anyway, some cruisers in the marina organised a clean up day. Of course we went along.
We found lots of flip flops, lighters, pipes, toothbrushes, one shopping trolley and of course loads of plastic bottles. But the most common rubbish here is the polystyrene tray's the fishing boats use. There were probably hundreds along this relatively short stretch of break wall - a small sample of what is floating out there...
Afterwards, there was time for a drink to celebrate making a small difference, before it was Sunday BBQ time.
We're an ordinary family of 5 dreaming, planning and now beginning our adventure around the Mediterranean (and further afield), having an awesome time! Look out for our boat and come and say hi.
